NHS staff report five-year high in patient racism
A Society of Radiographers poll and NHS Staff Survey data show patient discrimination against NHS staff hit a five-year high in 2025, affecting 9.26% of staff, up from 7.91% in 2021. Reported incidents include patients demanding no Black or Asian staff, or refusing treatment from foreign-born workers. NHS England is introducing national standards letting trusts withhold non-emergency care from abusive patients and record incidents formally.
