New York pauses new large data centres for a year over energy concerns

It's the first US state to do this, targeting the huge server warehouses that guzzle power and water to run AI. Governor Kathy Hochul signed the order on Tuesday, pausing state permits for new sites for up to a year while regulators write new rules. The standards will cover the plants' impact on energy demand, water quality and air quality.
