New police team to target illegal number plates in England

A new government-funded National Roads Policing Coordination Centre will bring police forces across England together to tackle illegal number plates. The initiative aims to disrupt organised crime groups and drivers who avoid fines by using altered or missing plates. New technology, like specialist goggles, will help detect plates made unreadable to cameras, with fines up to £1,000 for offenders.
