New EU powers allow regulators to inspect and fine US tech firms
On Sunday, Brussels gained the power to assess sophisticated models, restrict local sales, and penalise companies with fines reaching 15 million euros or 3% of their annual revenue. The European Commission can penalise firms for blocking evaluations or providing misleading answers. Elisabetta Righini, a lawyer at Sidley Austin, said foreign labs with American addresses remain fully within the regulator's reach.
