New £400m HMP Millsike prison hit by 'chaotic atmosphere'

Former staff at HMP Millsike, a new £400m prison in East Yorkshire, have described a "chaotic atmosphere" and under-staffing since it opened in March 2025. The prison, which has 1,500 places, currently holds about 1,100 inmates due to staffing issues. Mitie, the private company running the jail, says safety is its "highest priority" and operations align with Ministry of Justice plans.
