Nepal to drain four glacial lakes after floods killed more than 1,400

Nepal’s latest disaster left more than 5,000 people missing after an August glacier collapse caused landslides and flooding. Studies of four lakes will begin during the fiscal year ending in July 2027, with work potentially taking six years. The $50-million project will add drainage systems, sensors and flood warnings for communities downstream of the lakes.
