NBA Could Launch Smart Ball Next Year

NBA commissioner Adam Silver said the league could use a chip-equipped smart basketball for officiating as soon as 2027. Developed with Wilson, the one-gram sensor tracks movement, spin and trajectory and has been tested in the G League and preseason games. Silver said players could not tell the difference. Union talks on wearables during games remain unresolved over how teams would use on-court performance data.
