Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has named Elon Musk to co-lead Project Meridian, a 120-day Pentagon study of the technologies needed to dominate future battlefields. Anduril co-founder Palmer Luckey and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will co-direct it. The panel will examine AI, robotics, autonomous weapons, directed energy and biotechnology. Mitre Corporation is expected to manage conflicts of interest. Recommendations are due by late January 2027.
