Vladimir Putin is in India for talks with Prime Minister Modi, his first trip since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Prime Minister Modi personally welcomed President Putin upon his arrival in New Delhi. The meeting occurs as the current US administration, under President Trump, placed 50% tariffs on India in August 2025 due to its oil imports from Russia. Despite facing pressure from Washington, India continues to uphold significant defense connections with Moscow. Analysts characterized the meeting as a symbol of the two countries' enduring relationship amid a turbulent geopolitical backdrop.
