Metformin Brain Discovery Brings Hope to Millions With Diabetes

Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine have uncovered how metformin, the world's most widely used diabetes drug, works through a previously unknown brain pathway. By suppressing a protein called Rap1 in the hypothalamus, the drug lowers blood sugar more effectively than previously understood. The findings open new treatment possibilities for the approximately 4.3 million people in the UK living with diagnosed diabetes.
