US website Dictionary.com has named "maxxing" its word of the year for 2026. The slang suffix means pushing something to the limit, as in looksmaxxing, sleepmaxxing or proteinmaxxing. Its use grew from online forums and spread across social media, and by August it appeared 19 times more often in digital media than its 2025 monthly average. Linguists expect the word to stick around for years.
