Major Incident Declared as Devastating Floods Engulf West Wales, Triggering Massive Rescue Operation
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service declared a major incident after handling over 450 emergency calls in 12 hours following severe flooding across Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Swansea. Firefighters rescued 48 people from a flooded retirement complex in Whitland, 42 residents from St Clears, and 34 dogs from Glanrhyd Dog Sanctuary in Kidwelly. Emergency crews used rescue sleds and boats to evacuate trapped residents from homes and vehicles caught in fast-flowing floodwaters, with seven schools closed and multiple road closures implemented.
