London's FTSE 100 rises 0.3% after big gains for oil and mining shares

The mid-sized FTSE 250 index also climbed 0.1% on Tuesday, bringing it to its highest point in almost six years. Energy firm BP helped drive the main market's recovery after revealing second-quarter earnings of $5.73 billion, which is more than twice its earlier profits. Mining giants Glencore and Rio Tinto saw their shares jump as falling supplies pushed copper prices to a two-month peak.
