London Woman Fined £150 for Pouring Coffee Down Street Drain

Burcu Yesilyurt from Kew was fined £150 by Richmond Council enforcement officers after pouring coffee from her reusable cup down a street drain on October 10. She believed she was acting responsibly to avoid spilling on the bus but was cited under Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. The fine can be reduced to £100 if paid within 14 days. Ms Yesilyurt has not paid the fine and has submitted a complaint to the council.
