Jamaica Faces Historic Threat as Hurricane Melissa Reaches Category 5

Hurricane Melissa has escalated to Category 5 strength and is forecast to strike Jamaica with sustained winds up to 160 mph, storm surges reaching 4 metres and rainfall potentially exceeding 40 inches. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for vulnerable coastal areas and nearly 900 shelters activated. The storm is also threatening Cuba, Haiti and the Bahamas as it continues to intensify in warm Caribbean waters.
