J&J proposes $5.5bn settlement over talc cancer claims

Johnson & Johnson proposed a $5.5 billion deal on Monday to resolve about 69,000 US lawsuits claiming its talc powder caused ovarian cancer. The offer needs 95% of claimants to accept and covers only US cases, not a separate UK claim from over 7,000 people. Litigation head Erik Haas said the deal lets the firm move past the dispute, while J&J denies talc causes cancer.
