Israel opposes extending UN peacekeepers in south Lebanon

France and Lebanon are pushing to extend the UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon beyond the end of the year, the Financial Times reported on Sunday, with Israel opposed. Israeli forces continue to hold territory in southern Lebanon and struck areas around Nabatieh again on Sunday. Hezbollah has rejected calls to disarm, and talks between Israel and Lebanon were postponed on Saturday.
