Interstellar Comet 3I/Atlas Passes the Sun After Mysterious Discovery

Comet 3I/Atlas, the third confirmed interstellar object to visit our solar system, reached its closest point to the sun on October 29, 2025, approximately 126 million miles away. Harvard astronomer Avi Loeb has controversially suggested the object could be alien technology, citing its unusual composition lacking iron and strange outgassing behavior including carbon dioxide emissions. The comet, discovered in July 2025 by the Chilean ATLAS survey, travels at 130,000 mph and will make its closest approach to Earth in December.
