India's avocado demand booms, but local farmers struggle to supply
Fifteen years ago, avocados were called "dog fruit" in India, with little market for them, but demand has since surged. India now imports about 15,000 tonnes of avocados annually, while domestic production is only around 8,000–9,000 tonnes. Farmers are learning new growing methods and developing standard varieties to meet the rising demand and improve quality.
