IMF names Silvana Tenreyro as its new chief economist

The International Monetary Fund revealed on Tuesday that Silvana Tenreyro is to become its chief economist, succeeding Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas. Tenreyro, a former Bank of England policymaker, will also serve as director of the research department. She is set to begin her new role on August 10, 2026.
