The government is introducing a new database of approved traders and a payment system, designed to safeguard individuals undertaking home renovations. Prime Minister Andy Burnham said the changes will help put rogue tradespeople out of business, who often leave families with stress and unfinished work. The new scheme will hold customer money in an account, releasing it in stages as project milestones are met.
