Hospital ward closes due to rare crusted scabies outbreak
Due to an extremely contagious form of the skin condition known as crusted scabies, a ward at Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen has been shut down. The Hywel Dda health authority confirmed that treatment has been extended to all patients and staff who were contacts, regardless of whether they are displaying symptoms. Crusted scabies typically results in a scaly rash and dense skin crusts filled with thousands of mites, often linked to compromised immunity.
