Home Secretary threatens Eritreans with full UK visa ban over migrant returns

Eritrea had the second-highest number of asylum seekers of any nationality in the year to June 2026, with 6,952 arrivals, 5,875 of them by small boat. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood told the Telegraph that Eritrea has refused to take back its nationals who have no right to be in Britain, including convicted criminals. Eritrean diplomats have already lost fast-track visa access, the Telegraph also reported.
