HMRC sent 81,000 crypto tax warning letters in past year

HM Revenue and Customs, the UK tax authority, dispatched over 81,000 letters, emails, and texts to individuals holding crypto assets believed to have underpaid tax in the 2025-26 financial year. The number of warnings has almost tripled since 2024. Investors face fines or prosecution if they do not declare profits from selling or exchanging cryptocurrencies.
