Helicopter crash kills man near Doncaster field

On 30 October 2024, a Robinson R44 Raven II helicopter crashed in a field close to Bentley, Doncaster, shortly after departing Retford Gamston Airport at 10am. Peter Smith, aged 70, died at the scene. Three others—a 41-year-old pilot, a 58-year-old woman, and a 10-year-old boy—sustained minor injuries. Emergency crews were called to the scene at 10:14 a.m. Authorities from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch and South Yorkshire Police are jointly examining the incident.
