Heathrow profit falls as higher taxes outweigh record passenger numbers
Heathrow paid £129m to HMRC in the first half of the year, up from £62m, as higher business rates and national insurance costs cut into earnings. The airport still welcomed a record 40 million passengers and lifted revenue to £1.7bn despite a 25% drop in Middle East travel. Traffic to Asia Pacific and North America increased, helping offset weaker demand elsewhere.
