Greenwich and Kent universities are merging to form a 50,000-student super-university
Opening on 7 September, the London and South East University Group will become Britain's third biggest higher education provider. Students will study across four sites in London and Kent under their existing college identities, while one central organisation employs the staff. The partnership follows warnings from the Office for Students, the English university watchdog, that 45% of institutions face financial deficits.
