France worried as far-right AfD wins German state election

French government ministers expressed concern on Monday over the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party's victory in a regional election. France's Europe Minister, Benjamin Haddad, called it a "serious moment in Europe," warning against nationalism and xenophobia. The AfD more than doubled its support in Saxony-Anhalt, falling just three seats short of a majority in the 83-member parliament.
