France Orders Local Curfews and Furlough Support After Weekend Riots

France Orders Local Curfews and Furlough Support After Weekend Riots

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has asked prefects to impose partial, localised curfews in some urban areas from Monday night to protect shops after weekend riots. He said a state of emergency remains possible but curfews suit the situation better. At least 3,000 businesses were damaged or looted, and Lecornu said full state-funded furlough for their staff begins on Tuesday, alongside a dedicated support fund.
