Farmers warn of British food shortages after severe drought stunts wheat crops
England recorded just eight per cent of its typical July rainfall, leaving roughly 23 million residents facing hosepipe bans. Farming industry groups say the parched soil has stunted wheat stalks to half their normal size and triggered the earliest harvest on record. Government health officials have also issued amber heat alerts across southern and eastern regions until Wednesday morning.
