England match could force a huge surge in power demand

National grid operator NESO expects UK electricity demand to jump by as much as 800 megawatts when England play Croatia on 17 June, with the biggest spike at half-time as people boil kettles. The grid handling it is unrecognisable from 1966, with no coal power and wind and solar now supplying more than half of UK electricity. NESO says this World Cup will run on the cleanest power mix in history.
