Egypt opens world's largest military headquarters
Egypt has inaugurated a vast new military command centre called the Octagon, which has overtaken the Pentagon as the world's largest defence ministry building. Opened by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in the country's new desert capital east of Cairo, the complex of eight linked buildings covers an area about the size of Lisbon and reportedly cost around 57 billion dollars. Sisi said it would centralise the armed forces and strengthen Egypt's readiness amid regional turmoil.
