East Antarctica's temperatures soared by 28°C

Global sea levels may rise as climate change, caused by humans, amplifies extreme Antarctic heatwaves, affecting coastlines across the world. In July and August 2024, parts of East Antarctica experienced temperatures up to 28°C above average for longer than two weeks. Simulations suggest similar extreme weather could become up to 20 times more frequent by the century's end.
