E-scooter crashes injure 477 children, youngest aged nine

A review found 477 under-16s were treated for e-scooter injuries at three trauma centres, with cases rising from under 10 in 2019 to almost 150 in 2024. The average age of those hurt was 12, and few wore helmets, leading doctors to demand tougher laws. Most incidents involved private e-scooters used illegally on public roads.
