Doctors perform stroke surgery from thousands of miles away
Surgeons from Scotland and the United States have completed what is believed to be the world's first remote robotic stroke procedure on human cadavers. Professor Iris Grunwald at University of Dundee performed the first remote thrombectomy procedure, removing blood clots from donated cadaver tissue. Following the first procedure, neurosurgeon Ricardo Hanel, based in Jacksonville, Florida, performed a transatlantic operation on a cadaver located in Dundee, a distance exceeding 4,000 miles.
