Dinosaur-killing asteroid came from beyond Jupiter in outer solar system
Scientists traced the ancient space rock using rare ruthenium isotopes found in impact debris across Europe. The Chicxulub impactor measured roughly ten kilometres wide when it struck Mexico 66 million years ago. That outer-system origin rules out inner-belt asteroids and comets as the source of the catastrophe.
