Credit Company Encouraged Debt Despite Near Debt-Free Status
Experian, a credit-rating firm, faces criticism over its marketing practices. The company reportedly urged a woman close to clearing a £10,000 debt to acquire further high-interest credit cards. Consumer groups voiced worries that such offers from credit-scoring agencies could harm financially at-risk people. Experian stated it is creating a system to spot vulnerable clients and halt marketing emails. They added the offered cards could have reduced debt faster or cheaper. 35 million people in the UK hold credit cards.
