Common frog in Ecuador finally recognised as new species after a century
Pristimantis milpe, a common frog, was hiding in plain sight for over 100 years, mistaken for another species. Scientists from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador solved the mystery by studying 19th-century museum specimens in London. The newly described species is widespread across more than 67,000 square kilometres of forests in western Ecuador and southern Colombia.
