Cleveland Police get £2m extra to tackle serious crime
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced £2m funding after a crash killed two police officers and five men on 22 August on the A66 near Middlesbrough. Approximately 200 officers from other forces are assisting Cleveland Police, which has apprehended 27 individuals. The force's Police and Crime Commissioner, Matt Storey, called the £2m a "one-off payment" that doesn't fix chronic underfunding.
