China may take its AI back from the world
It mirrors Washington's own AI export curbs, a sign both powers now treat top models as strategic national assets. Reuters reported on Monday that Chinese officials have met Alibaba, ByteDance and Z.ai about restricting overseas access to their most advanced AI models. The talks cover even free, downloadable models, but sources say nothing is decided and any curbs may only hit future systems.
