Carlos Alcaraz wins US Open return after four-month wrist injury break

The defending champion beat Roman Safiullin 6-4 6-4 6-4 on Monday after 139 days out with a wrist injury. Alcaraz, 23, expressed his longing for the crowd and competition, with a compression sleeve visible on his right arm during play. World number one Jannik Sinner and 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic are out, making his path to the final easier.
