Canada joins GCAP jet program as observer, no financial commitment.

Canada is expected to become an observer on Tuesday, according to a Reuters source, and that first step doesn't need any financial commitment. Marco Zoff, chief executive of Edgewing, the joint venture designing the aircraft, said the UK, Italy and Japan will keep the 2035 target despite any new members. Edgewing won a £4.6 billion contract earlier in July, and its design phase is due to finish by the end of 2027.
