Burnham backed for Labour leader as MPs split

Andy Burnham is widely expected to become the next Labour leader and prime minister, with Sir Keir Starmer facing calls to set a departure timetable. Nick Thomas-Symonds, a leading ally of the Prime Minister, has publicly backed Burnham to take over. However, Labour MPs including Darren Jones and former defence minister Al Carns are weighing up whether to run against him.
