Brussels Wants a 15-Year Trial Run for New EU Members

New EU members could spend 15 years on probation under plans unveiled by enlargement commissioner Marta Kos, who said the bloc wants "no more Viktor Orbán". During that period, a country breaching democratic values could lose voting rights or EU funds far more easily than under article 7. Montenegro, Albania, Moldova and Ukraine lead the queue, and current member states must still approve the plan.
