British man, 76, dies falling from cruise ship

A 76-year-old British tourist tragically died after falling overboard from the Marella Explorer 2 cruise ship operated by TUI near Tenerife on Thursday morning. Spanish coastguard launched an extensive air and sea rescue operation involving helicopters and vessels after receiving a man overboard alert at 9:48am local time when the ship was 16.5 miles northwest of Punta de Teno. The passenger was seen entering the water while the adults-only cruise ship was traveling to La Gomera during a seven-day Canarian Flavours tour that had departed Tenerife on November 21.
