British Gas mistakenly paid customer £38,000 and struggled to reclaim it

A customer who submits quarterly solar panel export claims received £38,611.59 from British Gas in May instead of an expected £300. The energy firm had no procedure to reclaim the money and left it in their account for over seven weeks despite constant contact. British Gas has since offered £500 in compensation and paid the correct £300, although it initially underestimated that too.
