Britain's historic brewing industry is facing decline, with many local producers struggling as ales become less popular and overall alcohol interest drops. Breweries are hit by high electricity costs, which are twice those in France, and sharply rising employment taxes imposed by the government. Pubs, where most domestically brewed beer is sold, are closing at a rate of 14 a week, further crushing demand.
