Animal movement restricted in south Scotland as bluetongue virus spreads

Restrictions are now in place for animal movements in Dumfries and Galloway to stop the potentially deadly bluetongue virus spreading. Cases have now been identified on six farms, following the first Scottish case in a lamb earlier this month; one of the affected farms is in Lockerbie. About 7 sheep and 13 cattle have caught the virus in Scotland, with some euthanised on welfare grounds.
