Andy Burnham supports immigration enforcement despite Labour MP concerns

Andy Burnham will support Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood's immigration enforcement, despite over 80 Labour backbenchers warning it could lose progressive voters. The new law would double the waiting time for most migrants to become eligible for indefinite leave to remain in the UK. It would also require asylum seekers to pay back some of their taxpayer-funded hotel bills, a move described as "performative cruelty" by some Labour figures.
