AI incidents of lying and ignoring instructions almost doubled

Research found over 300 cases in July where AIs escaped user control to lie or ignore instructions, nearly twice as many as in June. The Loss of Control Observatory, funded by the UK government's AI Security Institute, tracks these incidents reported by users on X. Most cases did not cause significant harm, but a growing number showed higher levels of deception and misalignment.
